DSM Brew Coffee Co. and Homes 4 My Peeps are excited to launch the Community Composting Center™ to kickoff International Compost Awareness Week. A ribbon cutting for the Community Composting Center will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 9:30am with Mayor Frank Cownie and other community leaders.
The Community Compost Center is a free drop off location for residents in downtown Des Moines to leave compostable waste. All waste MUST be bagged in compostable waste bags and left in one of the storage containers. The center is housed in the orange steel storage unit on the patio of DSM Brew at the corner of 3rd and Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy is downtown Des Moines.
Food scraps and yard waste together currently make up about 30 percent of what we throw away and should be composted instead.
“We formed a partnership with Homes 4 My Peeps during our search for sustainable methods to dispose of used coffee in the downtown environment,” said Michael Bowser, Managing Partner of DSM Brew. “H4MP provides a compost collection service that returns compostable waste to Empowerment Gardens in the Des Moines metro. We’re thrilled to open up composting to downtown Des Moines.”
Residents or businesses interested in having their compostable materials picked up directly may contact David Houston with Homes 4 My Peeps at email@example.com or 515-867-0029.
